Chapter2Whenever we embark on a new field of academic endeavour, it helps if we can examine relevant facts in detail, and hopefully arrive at some basic theories about how they all fit together, to make a coherent whole of our field of study.

We examine how this works in the sciences, and apply the same thinking to the elements of economics.

We learn to distinguish what is true from what is merely a belief, and explain the difference.

We show why this is important in gaining a clear understanding, so we can improve our economy.
